About The Program
Our Summer Recreation Program generally begins July 1st and will run approximately 7 weeks, Monday to Friday, during the months of July and August. The cost of the program must be paid at the beginning of the summer, unless other arrangements have been made. Please note; the cost for the program is heavily subsidized thanks to incredible local grants such as the support from the Kinsmen, the HCRS Foundation and local town grants.
Activity Ideas
Some of the activities the children and young adults may participate in during the Summer Program include:
- Trips to the beach
- Swimming at the YMCA
- Bowling
- Movies
- Indoor/Outdoor Activities
- Arts and Crafts
- Trips to Wildlife Park
- Baking / Hot lunches
- So much More!!
At NRRS services we are committed to small and inclusive ratios. That is why our Summer Program is a 1 – 4 ratio for staffing, safety and transportation purposes.
All NRRS Programs are designed and have staffing provided to support diverse abilities. If additional support is required, NRRS staff, the participant and caregivers will explore what support options are available in order to enable full program participation.
At Northern Region Respite Services we strive to provide inclusive and accessible programs, supports, and services to families and individuals caring for persons diagnosed with diverse abilities.
Who can Register?
Our program is for children age 6 up to 18 who have diverse abilities and reside within Pictou County limits. There are limited spaces in the program and spots do fill up quickly, on a first-come-first-serve basis. Applications are not carried over from previous years, therefore families must apply every year if they are interested.
How & When to Apply
Summer Rec Application announcements are posted at the beginning of April each year. Applications are posted on our private Facebook page for all active participants.
